| Abstract: | It was because Kwek Siew Jin did not like the army and was rejected by the air force that he was drafted into the navy. He commanded the Singapore Navy's first minesweeper on its maiden voyage from San Francisco to Singapore. After 27 years of distinguished service, he retired as Chief of the Navy with the rank of Rear-Admiral (Two-Star). On returning to civvy street, he presided over the SMRT Corporation Ltd and Singapore Power.
